Understanding and Managing Vicarious Trauma: A Workshop for Health Professionals. Taught in conjunction with Dr. Melody Blass, PhD Psychologist.This 3-hour seminar will provide participants with specific knowledge of trauma and its impact, focusing specifically on the ways in which healthcare professionals and caregivers are exposed to trauma both directly and indirectly. We will discuss related terms such as secondary trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout, and explore the impact of acute versus chronic stress and trauma exposure. All participants will leave the training with specific skills to use when managing stress in the middle of a critical incident as well as after exposure. And finally, because vicarious trauma is embedded in the professional landscape, healthcare professionals will leave with the skills and awareness to collaborate on systemic approaches to mitigating the impact of trauma.
